Outpatient Clinic

In our Outpatient Clinic for returning travelers we offer specialized services for the diagnosis and treatment of tropical diseases, with regard to parasitic, bacterial and viral infections. The most common health problems after traveling include diarrhea, fever and skin affections. We also perform the required medical examination according to regulation 35 (G35, stay abroad under particular conditions) and the respective post-travel medical examination.

Information about the medical examination (please note the different categories)

1. Acute complaints

We have an consultation hour (without appointment) for patients with acute complaints (e.g. fever, bloody diarrhea): Mon - Fri 8:00 am - 1:00 pm. An preliminary diagnosis will be made on site and you will either be treated directly or you will receive an appointment. Please arrive before 11 a.m. if possible. Please plan for longer waiting times. Please sign in for acute consultations at the patient terminal (video system) situated IN FRONT of the institute (please note the signs). Out of opening hours, the emergency room is available for emergencies (e.g. fever after a stay in a malaria area).

2. Non-acute complaints / examination of chronic illnesses

Please book your appointment here: ONLINE APPOINTMENT-BOOKING. Alternatively, you can also make an appointment with us by email. This does not apply to G 35 obligatory preventive medical checkups / health fitness examinations, or G35 aftercare (see point 4).


3. Follow-up visit for control check-up

Please book your appointment here if you have recently made a first medical examination to our tropical medicine outpatient clinic and have been recommended to return: ONLINE APPOINTMENT BOOKING. Alternatively, you can also make an appointment with us by sending an email request.


4. Medical examination according to regulation G35 - Examination before and after the stay abroad

For so-called tropical health examinations according to Grundsatz 35 (G 35) of the German Employer's Liability Insurance Association, a personal appointment is necessary. Please send us a message via email for this purpose. Please note for persons aged ≥ 45 years: You will receive a referral from us for ergometry (exercise electrocardiogram), which you should plan independently in the outpatient area.


5. Rabies consultation

Immediate presentation is recommended after any animal contact suspected of being infected with rabies. You do not need an appointment. The opening hours of our outpatient clinic for this purpose are Monday - Friday from 08.00 - 13.00. Outside these hours, consultation and care are also provided through the Charité emergency rooms. Please bring immunization records and relevant documentation (for example on previous rabies vaccinations). Further information can be found HERE.

Emergency storage of medicines for sleeping sickness (African trypanosomiasis)

Medicines for sleeping sickness (African trypanosomiasis) are available at the Institute. A CONTACT REGARDING THE SLEEPING DISEASE is possible by e-mail or weekdays Tel. 030 450 665733 (CONTACT ONLY FOR MEDICAL COLLEAGUES FOR CONSULTATION ON SLEEPING DISEASE).
