Surveillance of imported infectious diseases

Travellers and migrants are exposed to an increased risk of contracting infections, which are rare in Germany and Europe. By surveillance of imported infections, geographic and other risk factors, e.g. travel style, can be identified.

You are here:

Risk identification and geographical fine mapping

Large numbers of returning travellers included in the surveillance enable early risk identification and geographical fine mapping. Therefore, surveillance is done in networks. With respect to the general risks of imported infectious diseases, we are a surveillance site of the international GeoSentinel surveillance network comprising a total of globally 57 60 sites and 255 network members on six continents as well as of the European EuroTravNet network. Specific questions on the import of infections with staphylococci are addressed in the European StaphTrav network. In a monocentric study, we additionally assess extent and risk factors of imported multidrug resistant gram negative rods (ESBL).
